Atiku Breaks Silence, Fires Back at Obasanjo Over ‘Biggest Regret’ Remark
  • ’Atiku Breaks Silence, Fires Back at Obasanjo Over ‘Biggest Regret’ Remark

Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has responded to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent comments describing his decision to choose Atiku as Vice President as his “greatest regret.”

In a strongly worded statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said he received Obasanjo’s remarks with sadness rather than anger, insisting that history should not be distorted by personal grievances.

According to Atiku, his relationship with Obasanjo dates back to the period when the former military Head of State was imprisoned. He claimed he remained one of Obasanjo’s steadfast supporters during those difficult years by standing with his family, advocating for his release, and providing assistance whenever necessary.

The former Vice President further alleged that after Obasanjo regained his freedom, he played a significant role in helping him rebuild his life.

“When he was released from prison, he had very little. I welcomed him, ensured he was properly cared for, clothed him, and offered every support needed to help him regain stability,” Atiku stated.

Atiku also maintained that he contributed to the political structures that eventually paved the way for Obasanjo’s emergence as President in 1999.

Defending His Opposition to Third-Term Agenda

Addressing the long-standing disagreement between them, Atiku insisted that his opposition to the controversial third-term agenda remains one of the proudest moments of his political career.

He argued that his decision was driven by a commitment to defending Nigeria’s Constitution and preserving democratic principles rather than any personal disagreement with Obasanjo.

“If standing against an unconstitutional third-term bid is the reason for the continued criticism, then I wear that decision as a badge of honour,” he declared.

Atiku stressed that no individual is greater than the Constitution, adding that his actions were aimed at protecting Nigeria’s democracy for future generations.

    Economic Achievements and National Focus

The former Vice President also referenced recent remarks by the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who reportedly praised the economic management team that served during the Obasanjo administration.

He questioned why, despite such acknowledgements from respected public figures, the former President continued to criticise his contributions to the administration.

Atiku argued that acts of kindness should never become tools for political score-settling, warning against what he described as attempts to rewrite history.

Call to Focus on Nigeria’s Challenges

Expressing disappointment over the renewed exchange, Atiku said it was unfortunate that past disagreements were being revisited at a time when Nigerians are grappling with inflation, unemployment, insecurity, and other socio-economic challenges.

He urged political leaders to focus on finding solutions to the country’s pressing problems rather than reopening old political disputes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While acknowledging Obasanjo’s right to hold personal opinions, Atiku insisted that opinions should not replace historical facts.

He concluded by saying that his years of silence were borne out of respect for the office Obasanjo once occupied, but noted that there comes a time when inaccurate narratives must be challenged.

“History cannot be altered by bitterness or repeated claims. Ultimately, history will speak for itself, and the Nigerian people will make their own judgment,” Atiku stated.

Peter Obi Celebrates Charly Boy and Newton Jibunoh, Commends Their Legacy of Courage and Service
  1. Peter Obi Celebrates Charly Boy and Newton Jibunoh, Commends Their Legacy of Courage and Service

Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, has paid glowing tributes to two distinguished Nigerians—veteran entertainer and activist Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa (Charly Boy) and renowned environmentalist and adventurer Newton Jibunoh—describing them as patriots whose lives continue to inspire generations.

In a message shared after attending separate events in Lagos and Asaba, Obi reflected on the remarkable contributions of both men to national development, social advocacy, and humanitarian service.

Speaking on the launch of 999: The Memoir of Charly Boy, held in Lagos on July 31, Obi said many people often judge Charly Boy by his unconventional appearance and public image, without appreciating the depth of his character and commitment to society.

According to him, beyond the flamboyant personality lies an intellectual, compassionate humanitarian, and patriotic Nigerian dedicated to promoting positive change.

Obi particularly praised Charly Boy’s advocacy for men’s health through his foundation. He noted that after surviving prostate cancer, the veteran entertainer has devoted his time and resources to creating awareness about the disease, encouraging early diagnosis, and supporting improved access to healthcare for men across the country.

He described quality healthcare as a cornerstone of national development and pledged his support for initiatives that promote public health and save lives.

Continuing his engagements, Obi visited the newly established Newton Jibunoh Centre and Museum in Asaba on August 1. Although he was unable to attend Jibunoh’s Mandela Day event themed “Poverty and Inequality Are in Our Hands,” he said it was important to personally honour the respected environmentalist.

Obi described Newton Jibunoh as one of Nigeria’s living legends, noting that his extraordinary life story remains a source of inspiration. He highlighted Jibunoh’s historic expeditions across the Sahara Desert to London, beginning in 1967 and repeated in later years, as enduring examples of courage, resilience, determination, and unwavering faith in the human spirit.

He observed that those remarkable journeys also remind Nigerians of a time when travelling across the country and beyond was significantly safer, adding that the comparison underscores the urgent need to restore security, unity, and national prosperity.

Peter Obi concluded by urging Nigerians to draw inspiration from the lives of Charly Boy and Newton Jibunoh, whose commitment to service, courage, and nation-building continues to leave a lasting impact.

Reaffirming his vision for the country, Obi expressed optimism that with responsible leadership and collective commitment, Nigeria can overcome its challenges and build a brighter future.

“A New Nigeria is Possible.”

From Viral Livestreams to Forever: The Beautiful Love Story of Peller and Jarvis

Love stories often begin in unexpected ways. For Nigerian digital creators Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja (Peller) and Elizabeth Amadou Aminata (Jarvis), what started as an online collaboration has blossomed into one of the most talked-about marriages in Nigeria’s social media space.

On August 1, 2026, the couple officially celebrated their white wedding after earlier completing their traditional marriage rites and civil wedding, marking the beginning of a new chapter in a relationship that millions have followed with admiration, curiosity, and, at times, criticism.

A Chance Meeting That Changed Everything

Peller and Jarvis first crossed paths during a TikTok livestream in 2023. At the time, both were building their brands as content creators. What began as a casual online interaction gradually evolved into frequent collaborations that captivated audiences.

Their chemistry was undeniable. Fans quickly noticed the connection between the two, and rumours of a romantic relationship spread across social media. Although they initially kept their relationship private, their growing closeness became increasingly evident through their videos and livestreams.

Building Love in the Public Eye

Unlike many couples who enjoy privacy, Peller and Jarvis built their relationship in front of millions of viewers. Every livestream, prank, celebration, and disagreement became a topic of discussion across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and X.

Their openness won them a loyal fan base, but it also exposed them to intense public scrutiny. Supporters celebrated their journey, while critics questioned whether their romance was genuine or simply another form of online content.

Challenges That Tested Their Bond

Their relationship was not without obstacles.

The couple faced public misunderstandings, online criticism, engagement speculation, and moments of disagreement that frequently became trending topics. At different times, rumours of a breakup and allegations that the relationship was merely a publicity strategy circulated widely.

Despite these challenges, both Peller and Jarvis repeatedly affirmed their commitment to each other. They continued to grow together, choosing dialogue, understanding, and forgiveness over public pressure. Their willingness to work through difficulties strengthened the admiration many fans have for them.

A Proposal That Captured Hearts

After an earlier public proposal that generated mixed reactions, Peller organised another proposal in June 2026 during a private ceremony in Accra, Ghana. This time, the moment reflected the couple’s desire for a more intimate celebration of their commitment.

The proposal was warmly received, and shortly afterwards, Peller travelled to Benin City to fulfil the traditional marriage rites, including the payment of Jarvis’ bride price in the presence of both families.

Preparing for a Lifetime Together

As preparations for their wedding gathered momentum, the couple shared pre-wedding photographs and wedding announcements that quickly went viral.

Peller also revealed that he attended marriage counselling before the wedding, explaining that he wanted to better understand the responsibilities of being a husband and build a healthy, lasting marriage. Many Nigerians praised the decision as a sign of maturity and commitment.

More Than Social Media Influencers

Today, Peller and Jarvis are regarded as two of Nigeria’s most influential digital creators. Through comedy, livestreams, and creative storytelling, they have built careers that inspire millions of young people across Africa.

Their relationship has demonstrated that behind the cameras and viral moments are two individuals determined to build a future together despite public attention and constant scrutiny.

A New Beginning

Marriage is more than a beautiful ceremony; it is a lifelong commitment built on trust, patience, sacrifice, respect, and unconditional love. As Peller and Jarvis begin this new chapter, many Nigerians are hopeful that their union will continue to inspire young couples who believe in genuine love and perseverance.
